Err…I do not actually care in which box you’ve put me

People like to fit others into categories. What you do must equate money. If what you do does not equate money now, it becomes very confusing. It is out of the norm and people will probably start judging you as you make them feel uncomfortable. It is extremely clumsy to start a business for the sake of money alone because it will not be successful. You will burn out because you are guaranteed to make no money at first. One's most successful businesses arise from a passion or by conviction about what is being adding to the world around that person. Passions and convictions do not usually arise overnight. But, it is something you live continually, something that grows, something that transpires in everything you do. It exists because you ever dream about making a dollar.

Do not shy away from living out your passion in the form of a social media page, a group, a not for profit activity, or any forum where you will or may not be paid. Do not restrict the number of interests you have to a single definition that makes your friends or family comfortable. May your creative projects be endless!

People judge out of fear. They are afraid you would not be able to support yourself. They are afraid you will ask them for money. They are afraid you will waste your time, and sometimes theirs. They fear you are not fit for the “real-world.” Far more importantly, they are afraid to face the fact that their own fear has stopped them from taking their creative path in life.

I have experienced this as a blogger in my relatively short blogging life. “why are you doing this?”, “I hope you work pro-bono because I can’t afford you”, “where are you going with this?”, “why are you trying this?”, “OMG. How are you going to survive? I heard you quit your job?! (I did not)”.

I have so many passions and things I personally want to learn in life. It is tough to fit them all into a day but I will continue to go where my creativity and professional lens take me.

You are a banker, but why can't you be a DJ! You are a cook but why do you event bother blogging about geography. Know that the person judging you also felt judged at some point in time and probably folded. They are only projecting their fears onto you. Those who live their lives free of such weight will be your most loyal supporters. They will get you.

If you enjoy what you are doing, do it regardless of what anyone thinks.
